Paintings created on location, en plein air.

I prefer working in the chaos of the outdoors to the controlled environment of the studio. There's simply no substitute for being on location: the visual information is overwhelming; the light is subtle, complex and ever-changing; the insects, gusts of wind, heat and cold, and even the occasional curious bystander—all add to the depth and richness of the experience. Painting plein air is unsurpassed training for the eye and food for the soul. This gallery contains a selection of works painted on location. Although some were touched up later in the studio, the majority of the painting took place entirely outside. Most of the paintings in this gallery were created on canvas or linen panels and range in sizes from 8" x 10" up to 12" x 16."
